our research

our research groups focuses on the interplay between biomedical imaging, biomechanics, and device design. we work mainly in female soft tissues, vascular, and respiratory space. by working closely with clinicians and industry, our research originates looks at both for fundamental insights and clinical relevance and translation.

ongoing projects

  • breast collagen

    we are evaluating clinically relevant imaging techniques to characterise a key microstructural component in breast health - collagen.

  • tissue-device interactions

    co-funded by Stryker Neuromuscular, we are investigating how arterial tissue responds after device interactions, like those in a thrombectomy.

  • uterine microstructure

    using clinically relevant techniques, we are characterising the microstructure and the mechanics of healthy and prolapsed uterine tissue.

  • novap

    funded by Enterprise Ireland, our team of clinicians and engineers is developing a novel endotracheal tube to prevent ventilator associated pneumonia.
